Pediatric Optometry

"At what age should my child have his or her first eye exam?"

The Quebec Association of Optometrists suggests screening for vision and eye disease as early as 6 months of age. Early examination of children and babies is critical for prevention of blindness due to amblyopia (a problem of development of the eyes). It is believed that our visual systems (eyes and connections to the brain and visual pathways) continue to develop until 7-9 years of age. Thus, it is critical to have an oculo-visual examination prior to this age.
